Based on the novel “Adeus a Matera”, by Russian writer Valentin Rasputin. A village on the island of Matera must be flooded for the construction of a new hydroelectric plant. An essential film in the history of Russian cinema, “The Farewell” remained unfinished due to the abrupt death of director Larissa Shepitko and was completed by her husband and also filmmaker Elem Klimov.

In it, according to a local legend, there is a room where all wishes are fulfilled. Only a few have the ability to enter and survive inside, the so-called "Stalkers". A writer and scientist try to penetrate this space and hire a Stalker to guide them into the Zone. On the way to the bedroom, they follow mysterious and often changeable routes.

Apichatpong Weerasethakul occupies his rooms and balconies to rehearse Ecstasy Garden, a film he wrote years ago. In this space, he recreates a narrative that mixes different levels of reality, fact and fiction, to explore the possible links between a vampire mother and her daughter, young lovers and the Mekong River that flows like the sound of Chai Bhatana's music. Filmed amidst the massive floods that affected this region in 2011, Weerasethakul interweaves different layers of meaning: destruction, politics and dreams adrift in the future.

With language mixed between documentary and experimental fiction, the video presents the relationship of a fisherman with the memories of his old city. Part of the city of Remanso, in Bahia, was submerged due to the dammed water used to build the Sobradinho hydroelectric plant. From the old city, only partially submerged ruins remain, such as that of a water reservoir, as evidence of disappearances. The fisherman navigates his own memories on a water crossing towards the past. The images themselves contain the tension and poetry of a city engulfed by water due to a supposed social progress.
